Campbell Sets 2018-19 Slate For The Vassar Women’s Tennis Team


POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (July 2, 2018) – The Vassar College women's tennis team, coming off another season that saw it finish ranked in the top 30 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III poll, released the 2018-19 season slate with tough tests throughout the year. In all, the Brewers will play six matches or tournaments at home this year, including the Vassar Scramble to start the season on September 15-16. The Brewers have a light fall season, but within it featuring one of the biggest tournaments of the year in the ITA Regionals on September 22-24 at William Smith College. VC also takes on Liberty League squads Bard College and Union College in the fall before packing up for the winter break. Upon returning for the larger spring portion of the semester, Vassar starts with its annual trip to West Point, NY to take on Division I Army. Vassar will then look forward to the final Seven Sisters Championships, being playing in Walker Field House February 23-24. The Brewers trip to California will feature some very high quality opponents in 2019, taking on No. 14 Bowdoin College along with Hardin-Simmons University, Whittier College, Caltech and Chapman University. Vassar returns to the East Coast for its first Liberty League match of the spring, traveling to Ithaca College on March 30 for a conference tussle with the Bombers. Vassar finishes its schedule with six Liberty League outings, highlighted by an April 20 trip to Saratoga Springs, NY to battle conference rival and defending league champs Skidmore College. The Brewers finish their regular season schedule April 28 at home against Rochester Institute of Technology, before heading into the Liberty League Tournament May 3-5 at Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. "Our shorter fall season features two tournaments and two dual matches which allows for a balance of training and competition in preparation for the main segment of our season in the second semester," said head coach Kathy Campbell. "Starting in the third week of January, the team resumes preparation for our 15 remaining matches featuring the annual spring break trip to southern CA and the balance of our conference/non-conference season. The schedule features matches against seven other nationally ranked programs and one D. I team (Army)," said Campbell.
