Costigan named to Buck Buchanan Award watch list

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football senior linebacker Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) is one of 25 players listed on the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award preseason watch list released Thursday morning.

Costigan is the only player from a Northeast Conference school listed among the 25 and is just the second Bryant player to ever be placed on the watch list. The Buck Buchanan Award is given to the Defensive Player of the Year in the FCS each season.

The 2017 NEC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, Costigan ranked fourth in the FCS in sacks per game, posted 17 tackles for a loss and also caused four fumbles on the year. Costigan became just the second player in program history to post 100+ tackles in a single season, posting five games with 10+ tackles. He registered 2.5 sacks in the opener vs. Merrimack, a career-high three sacks at Robert Morris, two more at Wagner and posted 14 tackles against nationally-ranked New Hampshire.

The Bryant University football team begins its 20th season on September 1 vs. New Haven. Tickets are available at BryantBulldogs.com/Tickets.
