POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team held its first scrimmage of preseason camp on Monday morning at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes alternated working regular game plays with red zone and special teams situations.
The first portion of the scrimmage consisted of five regular series. The defense kept the offense off the scoreboard all five times, and had three sacks and an interception. The Red Foxes then worked on red zone offense, with drives starting at the 20. In this session, red-shirt sophomore quarterback Jacob Hallenbeck threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to red-shirt junior tight end Jon Kanda. Red-shirt sophomore kicker Mateo Zapata (22 yards) and freshman kicker Max Heinrich (37 yards) both had field goals.
After special teams work, regular drives resumed. A 60-yard completion from red-shirt freshman quarterback Luke Strnad to senior wide receiver Juston Christian set up a 10-yard touchdown run by red-shirt sophomore running back Darryn Jordan. Two series later, a long pass from freshman quarterback Julian McGarvey resulted in both freshman wide receiver Sydney Person and red-shirt sophomore cornerback Ryan Webb coming down with near simultaneous possession. Person was ruled to make the catch at the four-yard line. After the defense held its ground on three straight plays, red-shirt sophomore running back Isiah Guischard scored a touchdown on fourth down.
On the scrimmage's final drive, red-shirt freshman quarterback Mike Husni completed a 25-yard pass to Person, and had a 23-yard completion to red-shirt junior tight end Kyle Hamrick. The drive culminated in a 32-yard field goal by Zapata.
