Women’s Volleyball Claims Top Spot in NJAC Preseason Poll
PITMAN, N.J. (8/16/18)- The defending NJAC Champion Kean University women's volleyball team has claimed the top spot with five first place votes in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
NJAC Release
"Being picked first means we are going to get everybody's best effort. We are going to have to come ready to play every night if we hope to win the conference again and return to the NCAA tournament", said Head Coach Don Perkins.
Stockton landed in the second spot with three first place votes, while Montclair State rounded out the top three with one first place vote. The rest of the poll is as follows: Rowan (Dark Horse), Ramapo, Rutgers-Camden, William Paterson, Rutgers-Newark, NJCU.
Last season, the Cougars went 28-11 with a perfect 8-0 mark in the NJAC. Kean won the NJAC tournament, captured the regular season title and made their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2001.
"The NJAC continues to get stronger every year, and with three teams getting first place votes, and other teams returning most of their lineup, the NJAC is going to be as wide open as it has ever been", said Perkins.
The Cougars return three All-NJAC selections, including first team selection Vikki Stec and second team selection Jesse Larkin.
Perkins and the Cougars will open the 2018 campaign in the Kean Invitational against the Golden Bears of Western New England University on Saturday, September 1stat 2:00 p.m.
