Football to be Featured on ESPN3 Division II Showcase at Assumption
WORCESTER, Mass. – The NCAA and ESPN family of networks announced Tuesday that the LIU Post at Assumption College football matchup on October 27 will be featured as part of the Division II showcase on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app. The Pioneers will get their second nationally broadcast contest against the Greyhounds in three seasons, as the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference championship matchup at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium was featured on ESPN3. The Green and Gold were victorious in that contest, taking down Assumption 43-23 to claim its 12th conference title in program history.
The October 27 contest could potentially determine the NE10 champion for 2018. The conference moved away from a championship contest last season, awarding the league title to the regular season champion. The Pioneers and Greyhounds were selected as the top two teams in the coaches' preseason poll, separated by a single point in the standings. LIU Post has held the upper hand in the 20-year rivalry between the two schools, with LIU Post winning 12 of 15 matchups. Assumption earned its third victory during the last meeting, however, defeating the Pioneers 54-20 last season. The high-powered Pioneer offense has dominated during the series, averaging nearly 35 points per game and have never scored fewer than 19 points in a game against Assumption. The 2018 season officially begins in week two for LIU Post as the Pioneers open against American International College on September 8 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 12:00 pm.
