Women's Tennis has Five-Match Winning Streak Snapped at Stevens
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team had its five-match winning streak halted on Sunday as the Cardinals suffered their first loss of the 2018 season with a 9-0 decision at Stevens Institute of Technology in an Empire 8 bout. Kaili Saffran, who entered the day unbeaten at first singles, nearly captured a point for the Cardinals, but fell, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, while Cassidy Bell, who had recorded three wins in singles play prior to Sunday's tilt, lost at second singles, 6-1, 6-3. The Ducks took third singles against Caroline Seaberg, 7-6, 6-2, before narrowly defeating Mikayla Santulli at fourth singles, 7-5, 0-6, 6-2. Amanda Thongsirimonghoun fell at fifth singles before Zuzanna Pociecha lost in her sixth singles pairing. In doubles play, Saffran and Bell fell 8-1 while Seaberg and Santulli were bested at second doubles, 8-3. Grace Peter and Jacqueline Chouinard were defeated, 8-2, in the third doubles match. Fisher will look to get back to its winning ways at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts Utica College in another Empire 8 match at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.
