Triathlon Competes At West Regional Qualifier
Longmont, CO – On Sunday, September 23, four members of the Wagner women's triathlon team took part in the first NCAA race of their respective Seahawk careers at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon West Regional Qualifier. The Green & White were one of three NCAA Division I programs in the competition, along with national power Arizona State University, who produced six of the top seven individual finishers (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7), along with the University of South Dakota, who produced the fourth-best finisher. Freshmen Anna Carrion i Barea, and Yasmin Rieger, who despite their youth, each had previous experience competing in draft legal races, were the top two Seahawk finishers, with Barrea coming in 23rd place (1:07:40), followed by Rieger, who was 26th (1:08:37). The two Seahawks experiencing a draft legal race for the first time were graduate student Fabia Maramotti, who placed 33rd (1:11:10), and freshman Kabrina Weaver, who was 37th (1:14:55). Among the 34 athletes competing on NCAA-sanctioned teams, Barrea finished 13th, with Rieger right behind in 14th place, while Maramotti and Weaver were 20th and 23rd, respectively. There were 15 additional athletes in the 49-person field who compete and train with various college club teams throughout the nation.
