UC Rolls Past Stevenson as Heenan Wins 250th


UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's hockey team returned home from a five-game road trip on Friday night and cruised to a key 7-1 victory over visiting Stevenson University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference action at the Adirondack Bank Center. Head Coach Gary Heenan, in his 18th season at UC, earned his 250th career victory. Heenan now ranks 40th on the Division III men's hockey all-time wins list as his career ledger moved to 250-165-43 overall. The Pioneers moved their record to 5-5 overall and improved to 4-2 in UCHC play. Utica returns home on Saturday for the 14th Annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss. The game is sold out, but fans can watch the contest locally on WKTV or online at wktv.com. Stevenson fell to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Utica jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead and added three more second period goals as the Pioneers controlled the majority of play throughout the contest. Senior defensemen Zach Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Gloucester (CCHL)) posted one goal and three assists, while Josh Haskin (Troy, NY/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders (USPHL)) added a goal and two assists. Haskin leads the team with 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) and Borsoi is making the most of his senior campaign as he sits in a second-place tie with 10 points on four goals and six assists through 10 games. Jarrod Fitzpatrick (Wakefield, MA/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) broke out with a team-high two goals for the Pioneers. 12 different skaters registered at least one point for the home team. Freshman Brad Becker (Howell, NJ/Binghamton Jr. Senators (NA3HL)) got the Pioneers on the board early as he netted his first collegiate goal 7:10 into the contest on the power-play. Stevenson answered just under four minutes later to knot the score at 1-1, but the Pioneers would push home two more goals before the end of the first to earn a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of work. Borsoi and Fitzpatrick each posted a first period goal for UC. Haskin, Shawn Lynch (Syracuse, NY/Ottawa Jr. Senators (CCHL)) and Fitzpatrick added second period tallies. Lynch netted his first of the year, while Fitzpatrick added his second of the night. Senior captain Gregg Burmaster (Clinton, NY/Colorado College (NCHC)) pushed home an empty netter late in the third period to cap the scoring on the day. UC goalie Gianluca Baggetta (Maple, Ontario/North York (OJHL)) stopped 29 shots in net for the Pioneers as he picked up his third victory of the season. Dustin Moyer came on in relief of Riley McVeigh and stopped 13 shots for the visitors. UC went 2-for-4 on the power-play and held the visitors to an 0-for-4 effort with a skater advantage.
