Monroe Women’s Indoor Track and Field has Solid Day at Great Dane Classic
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., January 12, 2019 – In the team's second meet of its season-opening weekend, the Monroe College women's indoor track and field team was impressive at the Great Dane Classic, hosted by University at Albany at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Joanna Archer ran her first collegiate race in the mile run, impressively earning an NJCAA Indoor Championship qualifying time by clocking in at 5:24.22 in the race. Later, she took third place overall in the 1,000-meter run, finishing in 2:56.87 to earn another qualifying time. Malethabo Seema made her season debut in the 500-meter dash. She ran a time of 1:19.45 in the race, which qualifies her for the 600-meter run at the NJCAA Indoor Championships. She later placed 10th overall in the 1,000-meter run, running a time of 3:06.94 to once again earn an NJCAA qualifying time. Faten Laribii was the second-place finisher in her debut race, the 1,000-meter run. She finished with a career-best time of 2:54.76 to also qualifying for NJCAA Indoor Championships in the event. Lethabo Seema earned a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday. Her time of 11:07.35 missed NJCAA qualifying time by just five seconds, setting her up to earn her way in later in the season. The Mustangs get back to work next Friday, Jan. 18, when they compete in the NYC Gotham Cup, once again at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
