Women's Swimming & Diving Claims NJAC Championship With 218-82 Win Over TCNJ


GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's swimming and diving team claimed the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship with a 218-82 win over The College of New Jersey on Saturday. The Profs are undefeated in the conference with a 5-0 mark and they have an 8-2 overall record. It is Rowan's third straight NJAC title and 12thoverall. The Profs took first place in the 200 medley (1:50.91) and 400 freestyle (3:40.42) relays. The medley relay included Abigail Brous (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), Bailey Howarth (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Daria Mnich(jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and Elizabeth O'Brien (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.). O'Brien, Kylie Salerno (fr. Castleton, NY/Maple Hill), Brous and Miranda Coughlan (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) were on the freestyle relay. Coughlan came in first in the 50 (24.46), 100 (53.32) and 200 (1:57.48) freestyles. Carlee Timmins (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) was the winner in the 1000 (10:38.69) and 500 (5:15.27) freestyles. Brous took first (1:00.70) in the 100 backstroke while Howarth had a first place (2:29.52) in the 200 backstroke. Emily LaBenski (jr. Wenonah, NJ/Deptford Twp.) touched first (2:16.58) in the 200 individual medley. Klaudia Rzotkiewicz (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) won the one-meter diving with 236.03 points. Corinne Finkbinder (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Kelly McQuestion (so. Malvern, PA/Great Valley) were third (201.30) and fourth (170.63) respectively in the one-meter diving. Finkbinder totaled 279 points on the three-meter board for first place. Rzotkiewicz followed second (216.08) and McQuestion was third (203.70). Alex Bambrick (jr. Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) had a first place (2:11.65) in the 200 backstroke and was second (11:00.59) in the 1000 freestyle. In the 200 freestyle, LaBenski and O'Brien were second (1:59.11) and third (1:59.37) respectively. O'Brien finished second (54.98) in the 100 freestyle and LaBenski was second (2:29.80) in the 200 breaststroke. Emily Kopchick (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) finished second (1:09.15) in the 100 breaststroke and Howarth had a third place (1:09.69). Jordan Jones (fr. Somerset, NJ/Homeschooled) swam 2:16.20 in the 200 butterfly for second. She also had a third place (5:33.41) in the 500 freestyle. Salerno was second (1:03.52) in the 200 backstroke and Madison Eufer (fr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) followed third (1:04.34). Mnich came in second (1:00.24) in the 100 butterfly and Gabby Gligor (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was third (1:01.15). Antonia Simunek (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) took third (25.83) in the 50 free. In the 200 backstroke, Veronica Alferez (so. Elmwood Park, NJ/Elmwood Park Mem.) and Eufer were third (2:16.73) and fourth (2:18.26) respectively. Alferez also had a second place (2:17.84) in the 200 individual medley and Howarth was third (2:18.58). Next week, Rowan travels to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, Feb. 2 for a 1 p.m. meet.
