Squash Wins Chaffee Cup at the CSA Team Championship


New Haven, Conn. – (February 17, 2019) – After coming up short in championship matches the last two seasons, the third time was the charm for the Fordham squash team, as they defeated Northeastern, 6-3, to win the Chaffee Cup at the 2019 CSA Team Championship, held at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. It is Fordham's first team title at the CSA Team Championship in recent memory.

Fordham opened with a 2-1 lead following the completion of the first wave of matches at the #3, #6, and #9 positions. Justin Deckoff won at the #6 slot in four games over Isaiah Jones, 11-3, 9-11, 11-9, and 11-9, while Will Beatreztopped Kalil Menezes at the #9 position in four games, 11-4, 11-3, 5-11, and 11-7. The Rams increased their lead to 4-2 to start the second wave, as Justin Esposito won at the #8 position in four games, 11-5, 11-6, 9-11, and 11-8, over Will Greaves-Tunnell. Then, Will Pantle completed a #2 position win over Ian Hay in four games, 11-8, 14-12, 10-12, and 11-6. Fordham then closed out the championship win with victories at the #1 and #7 slots. William Douglass won his top spot match in three games over Karan Kishorepuria, 13-11, 11-5, and 11-6 with Winthrop Reed IV taking down Connor Rouan in five games at the seventh slot, 13-11, 8-11, 11-6, 7-11, and 11-9. The win closes out Fordham's season at 20-7, the team's second consecutive 20-win campaign.
