Golden Eagles have a strong showing in day one of the All-Atlantic Region Championships


THACA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's track and field team traveled to Ithaca College Friday afternoon for day one of the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Championships. The Golden Eagles sent 17 members of the men's team and 22 members of the women's team to compete in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Championships next weekend. HOW IT HAPPENED – Men:

  • Michael Panzarino closed day one of the men's heptathlon in seventh place, with his fourth-place finish in the high jump leading the way.

  • Sophomore Brandon Leiter led the way in the 60m hurdle prelims, grabbing a ninth-place finish clocked at 8.58.

  • In the preliminary round of the 60m dash, Olivier Kothor continued to show his strength on the track, notching a sixth-place finish of 7.00. Page rounded out the event, posting a 7.17 for the 18th spot.

  • Taj Shaw dominated in the triple jump, posting a first-place mark of 14.68m, the strongest finish of the afternoon.

  • The field events continued to see positive results as Joe Weaver grabbed second place in the pole vault with a mark of 4.77.

  • Anthony DeYoung, Gunner Rapone, and Art Jordan capped off the men's events holding three of the top ten leaderboard spots in the shot put. DeYoung led the way with a second-place finish of 15.09, followed by Rapone in fourth marked at 14.72 and Jordan in 10th at 14.17.

Women:

  • Satin Holmes opened up the track events in the 60m dash prelims, securing a third-place finish of 7.88.

  • The women's team dominated in the field events, with seven top ten finishers.

  • Kelcey Watson, Claire Fisher, and Maya Reina posted third, fifth and seventh place finishes in the pole vault, Watson and Fisher each marked at 3.52 and Reina at 3.37.

  • The shot put saw another powerful trio, with Mady Dibble, Jessica Craven and Mariah Mays posting three of the top five finishes. Dibble had the strongest performance of the afternoon with a 12.62 mark for second place, followed by Craven in third at 12.59 and Mays just behind her at 12.57.

  • Chanyce Powell jumped her way to victory once again, posting a second-place finish in the triple jump with an 11.77 mark. Mia Montgomery and Lisa Huynh also had strong performances, grabbing 11th and 12th place respectively.

KEY STATISTICS –

  • Kothor and Holmes both posted qualifying times in the 60m dash.

  • Kothor's 7.00 time allows him to add another finish to the Brockport record book, just missing his previous record of 6.93.

  • Shaw's 14.68m grabbed him the second highest jump in the Brockport record book, passing his previous held record of 14.30m.
