McLean Ties For Third In Leading Women’s Golf To Third-Place Finish At FDU Invitational


amburg, NJ – Sophomore Heather McLean, a Second-Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) performer last season, picked up where she left off in the spring by firing rounds of 79 and 76 to finish in a tie for third individually and leading the Wagner women's golf team to a third-place finish in the season-opening 10-team Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Invitational on Sunday. The two-day, 36-hole event, held at the Crystal Springs Golf Club (Par 72, 6,395 yards), was won by the host FDU Knights with a four-person team score of 607, followed by Lehigh in second place (630), with the Seahawks' 664 claiming third. In addition to McLean's 79-76-155 (+11) tie for third finish, the Seahawks had a second top-20 performer in sophomore Elise Keane (83-84-167) who tied for 17th place. Competing in her first collegiate event, freshman Brianna Fitzpatrick delivered a 26th-place (84-89) effort, followed by sophomore Kyree Conaway (86-89) and senior Elizabeth Parsons who finished 30th and T38th, respectively. FDU was paced by individual champion Nicola Smith (73-74-147), followed by teammates Caterina Tatti (77-74-151) and Tomita Arejola (79-77-156) who finished in second and fifth-place, respectively. Tying McLean for third place was Lehigh's Minuette Laesing (78-77-155). The Green & White continue their fall schedule next weekend (September 14-15) when they compete in the Bucknell Invitational.
