NYU Women's Fencing Falls to Columbia

The New York University women's fencing team hosted defending NCAA National Champions, Columbia University, at the Rosenthal Pavilion in NYU's Kimmel Center on Thursday, November 14. The Violets, competing in their first dual match of the season, fell to the Lions by a score of 22-5. NYU was nipped in sabre 5-4. Allison Dunlap (Redondo Beach, CA/Vistamar) posted two of the victories for the Violets, with Chloe Chen (Lumberton, NJ/Moorestown Friends) and Elizabeth Sweetra (Summit, NJ/Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child) recording the others. The only other victory of the night for NYU came in the epee competition, as Ally Hu (Coram, NY/Newfield) defeated her opponent, LeeAnn Choy. Columbia posted a 9-0 victory in foil. "It was a tough match against a great opponent," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "But, we fought hard and had some good performances." The Violets return to action on Sunday, December 8, when they compete at the Sacred Heart University Invitational in Fairfield, CT.
