Volleyball Opens Season at Morehead State to Compete in Eagle Challenge

The Terriers begin play on Friday, August 24, when they take on host institution, Morehead State at 11 a.m. The Eagles finished the 2017 season (14-15, 5-11 OVC) and were picked to finish sixth in the 2018 OVC Preseason Poll. The matchup marks the first meeting between the teams in history. St. Francis Brooklyn vs. Hampton Friday, August 24 at 4:30 p.m. Morehead, KY Live Stats The Terriers play their second game on opening day against Hampton at 4:30 p.m. The Pirates recorded a (13-17, 7-5 MEAC) record in 2017 and were picked to finish ninth in this year's MEAC Preseason Poll. The teams are set to meet for the first time since 2001 when St. Francis Brooklyn picked up a 3-1 victory. St. Francis Brooklyn vs. Bradley Saturday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. Morehead, KY Live Stats The final game of the Eagle Challenge takes place on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Terriers square off with Bradley for the first time in program history. Bradley posted a (10-22, 3-15 MVC) record last season and was selected seventh in the MVC Preseason Poll. MEET THE TERRIERS: The Terriers return 12 student-athletes to the team this season and have added three freshmen to round out the roster of 15. The Terriers are led by fourth year head coach Abra Rummel, she's assisted by first assistant/recruiting coordinator Andy Mueller, and Domenique Gerard. 2017 RECAP: St. Francis Brooklyn wrapped up the 2017 season (8-21, 2-12 NEC). The Terriers recorded their first-ever All-NEC First Teamer when graduating senior Aleksandra Gligoric was tabbed with the honor. Returners Ally Speweik, Taris Pittman, and Vanja Miljacic filled up the stat sheet offensively for the Terriers. Ally Speweik tallied 236 kills and 2.54 kills per set, which ranked second on the team in both categories. Miljacic registered 171 kills and 1.82 kills per set, while Pittman notched 126 kills and 1.27 kills per set. Nina Tiedt and Gabriella Nóbrega set up the attackers as they recorded 486 and 479 assists respectively. Mireya Ramirez and Angie Speweik led the team in digs. Ramirez finished the year with 230, while Angie Speweik had 303. The Terriers went on a season-long three-match winning streak from September 9-15. Over the course of the winning streak St. Francis Brooklyn knocked off Holy Cross, Saint Peter's, and Marist. The five-set victory over Marist marked the first time in program history that the Terriers knocked off the perennial MAAC contender. UP NEXT: The Terriers return to Brooklyn Heights to host the annual Terrier Invitational, which takes place Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1, in the Genovesi Center. The two-day event will feature Bucknell, Cal State Fullerton, Delaware State, and NJIT. St. Francis Brooklyn takes on NJIT in its first game of the tournament on Friday, August 31, at 3 p.m. On Saturday, September 1, the Terriers face Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. followed by a matchup with Delaware State at 7 p.m.
