Sara Gardner Breaks Facility Record at the Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Rider University women's track and field team competed at the Gotham Cup on Friday. The one-day event took place at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Broncs got a pair of ECAC-qualifying performances on Friday evening. Graduate student Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Delaware Valley) continued her strong start to the calendar year with a victory in the 60m hurdles. She crossed the finish line with an ECAC-qualifying and new facility-record time of 8.54. The other ECAC-qualifying performance came from senior Ashley Berry (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) in the weight throw. Berry landed in fourth-place with a toss of 16.61m. NOTES & QUOTES "We were not great today in many areas. We definitely have done work to do to compete at the level that we desire this season. We did have a few highlights where athletes gave great effort and also achieved a great outcome." – Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer "Gardner is on a different level right now. You always look for athletes to pick up where they left off the previous year and then take it to a new level. She's doing that right now. It will be an exciting second half of the season for her." – Hamer
