Very Successful Run At Royal Henley Regatta Ends In Semifinal For Yale Eight
Bulldogs Beaten By An Australian National Eight
Yale's glorious run at the Henley Royal Regatta came to an end in the semifinals of the Remenham Challenge Cup. An Australian national eight whose stern was a four that just won the most recent World Cup topped the Bulldogs by 2.5 lengths on a beautiful afternoon on the Thames River.
The Australians will meet Leander Club and University of London in Sunday's final.
"This is our fifth trip to Henley and every time we have been knocked out by a senior national team," said Will Porter, The Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs.
Despite the result, it was a very successful trip to Henley for Yale. The eight advanced to the semifinal by knocking off the Dutch Under-23 national crew on Friday. The Bulldogs also had a coxless four that qualified for the famed regatta.
The trip began in June with a strong performance at the Henley Women's Regatta.
"We got in some good racing on this trip that should serve us well as a program in the future," Porter said. "I am very proud of the way these two crews have raced. Very proud. Now it is time for summer and reset. Next time we gather we will be a new team and have a clean slate."
