Brockport Football Names Captains For Upcoming Season


BROCKPORT, N.Y. - With The College at Brockport football season rapidly approaching, there will be four new faces leading the team into preseason. Joe Germinerio, Jake O'Connell, Caleb Ferdilus, and Austin Dean have been selected as team captains for this upcoming year. All four individuals have led by example this past season during their run to the NCAA Final Four. Germinerio is entering his Junior year here at Brockport, as he looks to take control of the offense during this upcoming year as quarterback. Last season, he was the true definition of a dual threat quarterback as he racked up 40 touchdowns, 27 passing and 13 rushing. He was ranked fourth in the country in passing yards (3,485), and eighth in completion percentage of 67.83%. With his successful season, Germinerio, was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, D3Football.com East Region Offensive Player of the Year, and D3football.com All-American Honorable Mention. O'Connell was the next captain to be selected for this upcoming year, as it was earned through his outstanding defensive play last season. The native of Rochester, N.Y. picked off seven balls, while returning three for touchdowns. He also racked up 56 tackles, broke up eight passes, and recovered a fumble. The senior did not go unnoticed as he earned Empire 8 First-Team All-Conference, First-Team All-Region, D3Football.com First-Team All-American. Ferdilus is the lone returning offensive lineman to this year's front line. He was a key contributor in the offensive scheme last season, creating holes for the running backs, and protecting the quarterback. He will bring experience and knowledge to the new O-line that will continue their unstoppable ways. This past year, the native of Pomona, N.Y. was selected First-Team All-Conference, and Second-Team All-Region. Dean rounds out the four team captains for this upcoming season. Last year, Dean, caused havoc to every offensive line he faced. He totaled 52 tackles, with 14 of them being for a loss, and 7.5 sacks. His talents did not go unnoticed as he was named First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region. The Brockport football team will look to these four individuals to lead by example for the new and returning players, in their quest for a national championship.
