Washington Named to Mackey Award Watch List

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football tight end Jerome Washington is a member of the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, the organization announced Friday. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. Washington led the Scarlet Knights with 28 receptions and 282 receiving yards last season (10.1 average), picking up one touchdown and 13 first downs. The tight end logged at least one catch in 11-of-12 games with a high of six grabs in the opener versus Washington. He totaled a season-high 57 receiving yards in the win over Maryland, including a 35-yard reception. Washington's highlight of the season came at Nebraska, converting on a third down that was trapped by his feet and involved a summersault. The acrobatic effort took the top spot on SportsCenter Top Ten Plays.
