Colgate assistant Green named women's basketball coach

Mahogany Green, previously an assistant coach at Colgate University the past two seasons, has been hired to lead the Hamilton College women's basketball program. As the Raiders' top assistant, Green was responsible for monitoring all game-planning, practice preparation and opponent scouting. She led national recruiting efforts and was the program's academic liaison. She also served as Colgate's director of Raiders of Color Connect organization, which assisted the university's minority student-athletes. "I want to thank God for this opportunity and thank (Director of Athletics) Jon Hind and (Associate Director of Athletics) Miriam Merrill for believing in me," Green said. "I look forward to taking Hamilton women's basketball to a new level. We will compete every day on and off the court and have fun doing it!" Green is Hamilton's 10th head women's basketball coach. The Continentals finished 2017-18 with an overall record of 14-10 and posted their highest win total since the 2009-10 season. "We are thrilled to welcome coach Green to our community," Director of Athletics Jon Hind '80 said. "Her passion for working with young people through sport coupled with her knowledge of college basketball positioned her perfectly to take over the leadership of our women's basketball program. It became clear through the interview process that coach Green completely understands our commitment to the learning and development of our student-athletes through their participation in intercollegiate athletics." Green has been an assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago (2015-16), University of Kansas (2012-15), Central Michigan University (2008-12), Eastern Kentucky University (2007-08), Purdue University Fort Wayne (2006-07) and Eastern Michigan University (2003-06), and was a graduate assistant at her alma mater Cleveland State University for the 2002-03 season. She helped guide Loyola Chicago to 14 wins, including a 10-8 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. In 2012-13 Kansas won 20 games and advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament. One of the Jayhawks Green worked with went on to become an all-American and a 2013 WNBA draft pick. Green helped lead Central Michigan to a pair of 20-win seasons, two Postseason Women's NIT appearances, and the championship game of the 2012 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament. Her Eastern Michigan teams won 67 games in three seasons, captured two MAC West Division titles and played in the Postseason Women's NIT twice. In 2003-04 the Eagles were MAC Tournament champions and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. "I also want to thank all the previous staffs I worked on for preparing me for this moment," Green said. "Lastly, I want to thank my mother and daughter and family for always supporting me." Green played professional women's basketball in Turkey for six months after a successful collegiate career at Cleveland State where she scored 1,366 points in 113 games. She was a two-time all-Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now the Horizon League) first team selection, voted the conference's 2000-01 preseason player of the year, and made the all-tournament team in 2000. Green was named the Vikings' most outstanding player after her senior year, and is one of just four Cleveland State players to post a triple-double. She is still ranked in the program's top 15 in career points, rebounds, assists, steals, 3-point field goals, free throws made and free throw percentage. The native of Toledo, Ohio, has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cleveland State and a master's degree in sports administration from Central Michigan. She resides in Hamilton with her daughter, Kennedy Janea Green-Eddie, and her mother, Jeanette Green.
