Lawless and Daniels Named to Preseason All-CAA Football Team


BALTIMORE, Md. -- Senior LB Shayne Lawless (Moorestown N.J.) and senior TE Cal Daniels (Bethel, Conn.)of the Stony Brook football team, were named to the 2018 CAA Football Preseason All-Conference team, it was announced Tuesday at the conference's Media Day at M&T Bank Stadium, home of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. Lawless, a two-time second team All-CAA Football honoree (2016 and 2017), has played in 34 games in his career with the Seawolves and has recorded 199 total tackles during his career that includes 26.5 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks. Daniels, a first team FCS STATS All-American and first team All-CAA Football in 2017, has played in 34 games in his career with Stony Brook and has 47 receptions for 463 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to the Preseason All-Conference Team, the CAA also released the Preseason Poll, where the Seawolves were picked to finish fourth out of 12 teams. Coming off a very successful 2017 campaign, Stony Brook finished second in the conference with a 7-1 mark and went 10-3 overall that included a return time to the NCAA Playoffs. James Madison, the 2017 FCS National Runner-up, received 21 of the 24 first-place votes to take the top spot. New Hampshire had a pair of first-place votes to sit second, while Delaware rounded out the top three. Stony Brook's 169 overall points placed them one point ahead of Elon. Villanova placed sixth and Richmond, Maine, UAlbany, Towson, William & Mary and Rhode Island completed the poll. The Seawolves begin camp on Thursday, August 2 and open the season on Sept. 1 at Air Force in Colorado Springs. The home opener is slated for Sept. 8 against Bryant in Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
