Robertson, Malson Chosen to Lead Golf Teams


MADISON, N.J. (July 30, 2018) - Current FDU-Florham football assistant coaches Jimmy Robertson and Andrew Malson have been selected to lead the men and women's golf teams beginning this fall. "Jimmy and Andrew are valued members of the Devils Athletic Department and are well respected by the student-athletes," explained Director of Athletics Jenn Noon. The Men's and Women's Golf Programs are in great hands with the two of them at the helm. They both have the skill set to lead both programs to be championship contenders." Robertson, who will be entering his fourth season as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach, will be the Head Coach for both men and women's golf. The New York native played football at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2005--08 and was inducted into the RPI Hall of Fame in April 2018. "Taking over the golf program here at FDU is a special moment in my coaching career," Robertson stated. "There is such a tradition and high quality student-athlete in these programs that I can't wait to get started. I'm excited to continue to strengthen the championship culture that Coach Kindel and Coach Noon have previously implemented." Robertson joined FDU after spending four seasons with the United States Merchant Marine Academy. H e served as Quarterbacks Coach from 2012-2014, after coaching the Wide Receivers in 2011. In 2014 he mentored quarterback Matt McDaniels who was named 1st Team All-Liberty League. In addition to his football coaching duties, Robertson also served as the Head Coach for the Men's Tennis Team for 2 seasons. In 2015 he led the team to the school's first ever Landmark Conference playoff berth and first ever ECAC playoff berth. For his accomplishments he was named the 2014-2015 USMMA Athletics Coach of the Year. Malson, the Defensive Coordinator for the football team, will serve as the Director of Men and Women's Golf. Prior to FDU, Malson was the Defensive Coordinator and Director of Men and Women's Golf at Westminster College. "I'm excited to be taking over the Men's & Women's golf program here at FDU," said Malson. "It's an exciting time to be at FDU and having the opportunity to work with Coach Robertson will be a great experience. We are looking forward to continuing to develop the programs set forth by Coach Kindel and Coach Noon."

From 2013-15, he served as the defensive backs coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. During the 2012 season he was a defensive Graduate Assistant at Western Michigan University under Head Coach Bill Cubit. During his time at WMU he was the Assistant Defensive Line Coach and worked with the nose guards and recruited the state of Missouri. Before Western Michigan, Malson was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for three seasons at his alma mater, Westminster College, from 2010-12. In 2011, his defense was ranked tops in all of Division III in forced turnovers and fumbles recovered. He coached 4 All-Conference players in the secondary during his time at Westminster. Malson's coaching career began as a Graduate Assistant Coach working with defensive backs at Missouri Western State University. He is an alum of Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, MO where he played under current University of Missouri Head Coach Barry Odom.
