Lewis Selected For Walter Payton Award Watch List

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis senior receiver Kamron Lewis (Fresno, Calif./Edison) added to his preseason accolades on Wednesday as he was named a Walter Payton Award Watch List member for the third straight year, second time to start the season. The Walter Payton Award is given by STATS FCS to the top offensive player in the FCS. Earlier this summer, Lewis was named a Preseason Third Team All-American by HERO Sports and a Preseason All-NEC selection. Lewis is one of SFU's 20 Preseason All-America selections since 2015. Lewis is looking for another big season after a solid 2017 campaign. He caught 65 passes for 909 yards and six touchdowns. Lewis ranked 14th in the FCS in receptions per game (6.5), 19th in yards per game (90.9) and 28th in total yards. The California native had three games with over 100 yards, including a season-opening eight-catch 153-yard day against Lock Haven. He set career highs with 15 catches for 202 yards and a touchdown at Bryant before grabbing five passes for 143 yards vs. Robert Morris. Lewis caught a touchdown pass in five of the first six games of the season. The senior enters his final year in Loretto ranking second all-time at SFU, and eighth in the NEC, with 2,494 yards. Lewis needs 970 yards to pass Michael Caputo (3,464) for the SFU career mark. Lewis ranks fourth all-time at SFU in receptions (151), 94 away from Caputo's record, and touchdown receptions (17), 14 behind Caputo. Lewis is 14th all-time in the NEC in receptions. The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Chris Villarrial, looks to get back to NEC Championship form after going 5-6 in 2017, including 3-3 in the NEC. SFU was picked fourth in the NEC Preseason Poll and has five Preseason All-NEC selections. Joining Lewis as a Preseason All-NEC selection were senior tackle Mederick Flavius, Jr.(Lauderhill, Fla./Northeast), senior safety Hakeem Kinard (York, Pa./York Catholic), junior safety Nick Rinella (Collegeville, Pa./La Salle College) and senior punter Andrew Zecca (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston). SFU opens the 2018 season on Saturday, September 1 at Lehigh, with a 12:30 p.m. kickoff. The Red Flash makes its home debut on September 8 as it hosts Delaware State at Noon. Saint Francis also welcomes West Virginia Wesleyan on September 29, for a 4 p.m. kickoff, to close out non-conference play. The Red Flash hosts three big conference games, welcoming Duquesne on October 20, Bryant on November 3 and Central Connecticut State on November 10, with all three scheduled for Noon starts.
