Two Fordham Rowers to Compete at World University Games

Bronx, N.Y. - This weekend, Fordham rowers Cynthia Luz and Danae Ohresser-Joumard will represent the USA in the World University Games to be held in Shanghai, China. The two women are part of an elite group of collegiate rowers that were invited to compete for the USA in the WUC games this summer. Both Danae and Cynthia were members of Fordham's Varsity 8+ crew this last year. They had a very successful spring season, improving every race and peaking at the Dad Vail Regatta where they took third place and helped the team win second place overall in the women's team point rankings - the best in Fordham history! "Our successful season was a confidence boost, and a confirmation that our winter training has paid off. I feel ready to take on new challenges hoping that our hard work will continue to show through our results." says Danae. While Danae has competed twice at the French National Championships, winning first place in the 2x event, the WUC will be the first time that either athlete has competed on an international stage. The Fordham women look forward to learning more about training and technique as they are able to observe and compete against crews from other countries. They hope that this experience will be one of growth and help them prepare to take on greater challenges in the future, such as competing at the U23 World Championships. Racing will begin on Friday, August 10th, with the rowers participating in the first heat of the Women's 4- event at 10:21am. Due to the time difference this race will be held at 10:21 p.m. on Thursday night Eastern Time. For more information about the event, including schedule, visit World University Rowing Championships.
