Football Announces Three New Hires to Coaching Staff
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Head football coach Mark Nofri has announced the hiring of three new members to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2018 season. Stephen Matos has been hired as the new assistant coach – tight ends, Brad Tiernan as an offensive analyst and C.J. Butt as the team's video coordinator. The new hires all joined the staff late this summer ahead of the start of preseason camp.
Most recently, Matos served as the Offensive Quality Control, Assistant Offensive Line Coach at Princeton. He spent the 2017 season in the same position at Monmouth, handling projects passed down from the head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He assisted in offensive line drill progression and schemes for the Hawks during their run to an at-large bid to the 2018 NCAA FCS Playoffs.
Prior to Monmouth, Matos spent one year as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Becker College and four years as an assistant varsity coach at Cranford Senior High School in New Jersey, which held the state's highest scoring offense (42.1 ppg) in 2015.
Matos earned his bachelor's in accounting from Rutgers Business School in Newark in May 2013.
Tiernan joins the SHU coaching staff after a five-year playing career as an offensive lineman for the Pioneers. Appearing in 29 games on the offensive line over the last three seasons, Tiernan was also a member of the Pioneers' Northeast Conference championship teams of 2013 and 2014.
