Nelson-Ododa, Williams Win Gold at FIBA Americas U18 Championship


Mexico City – UConn women's basketball freshmen Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Christyn Williams helped the USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team go undefeated and win gold at the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The United States overcame an 18-14 first quarter deficit to defeat Canada 84-60 in the championship game. Williams notched 11 points, five rebounds and five assist in the gold medal game. Williams and Nelson-Ododa each notched four starts in the tournament, including all three elimination rounds games. Williams averaged 8.4 points per game while Nelson-Ododa tallied 9.2 points per game. Team USA has won nine-straight gold medals at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship and is now 59-2 all-time in FIBA Americas U18 Championship play. Williams comes to Storrs as ESPN's No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2018. She was named the 2018 Gatorade, Naismith and WBCA National Player of the Year. Nelson-Ododa is the No. 5 recruit in her class and a 2018 McDonald's All-American.
