St. John’s Plays No. 16 Fordham to Scoreless Draw in Exhibition Opener

BRONX, N.Y. - Sporting a roster with 25 newcomers, the new-look St. John’s men’s soccer team opened the 2018 preseason with a solid decision on Friday night, playing No. 16 Fordham to a scoreless draw at Jack Coffey Field.

Led by MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watchlist selection Janos Loebe, the Rams, who reached the quarterfinals of last year’s NCAA Tournament, were kept off the board for 90 minutes. Four Red Storm keepers played a part in the clean sheet: Lenny Wilson, Ryan Miller, Tyron Matuta and Luka Gavran.

St. John’s will play two more exhibition matches prior to the start of the 2018 regular season, heading to the University of New Hampshire on Monday before wrapping things up with an Aug. 18 showdown against LIU Brooklyn.

The Johnnies will officially kick off the 2018 season on Aug. 24, squaring off with UC Santa Barbara at 10:30 p.m. ET.
