Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Ranked Third in 2018 NJCAA Div. I Preseason Poll
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., August 15, 2018 – Coming off their fourth-consecutive trip to the NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer National Championship Tournament, the Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team enters the 2018 season as the No. 3 team in the nation, as announced by the NJCAA on Wednesday in the 2018 NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer Preseason Rankings. The Mustangs went undefeated in the 2017 regular season, including wins over No. 4 Eastern Florida State and No. 20 CCBC-Essex. Monroe entered the Region XV Championship with a 10-0-2 record and claimed their second-straight Region Championship, topping ASA College, 3-0. And although the Mustangs fell to No. 15 Mercer Community College in the Northeast District Championship, Monroe still earned a bid to the NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer National Championship Tournament. There the Mustangs beat Kansas City Kansas Community College, 5-1, in their opening game, before falling to Schoolcraft College, 2-0, ending their postseason run. The Mustangs outscored their opponents 73-11 en route to a 13-2-2 finish. Svyat Kozak, became the second-ever Mustang selected to CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team, while four Mustangs were named All-Americans, and seven total picked up postseason awards. Monroe finished the 2017 season ranked 7th in the NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer Rankings. Monroe opens up the 2018 season at the CCBC-Essex Tournament in Baltimore, Md, looking to make another postseason run. The Mustangs take on CCBC-Essex in their season opener on Saturday, Aug. 25, before facing Harford Community College on Sunday, Aug. 26 to close out opening weekend. ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
