Monroe College Women’s Soccer Enters 2018 Season Ranked 16th in NJCAA


NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., August 15, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team enters the 2018 campaign ranked No. 16 in NJCAA Div. I, as announced by the NJCAA on Wednesday in the 2018 NJCAA Div. I Women's Soccer Preseason Rankings. The Mustangs finished the 2017 season 7-5, and ranked No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Monroe upset No. 2 Monroe Community College in overtime in their season opener, and took down No. 4 Daytona State in a neutral-site matchup, but fell in their season finale to ASA College, 3-1. The Mustangs were led in 2017 by a trio of freshmen: Juliana Pires, Yolanda Albalat and Angie Ponce. Pires and Albalat tied for the team lead with eight goals, while Pires also finished with the most assists (6) and points (22) on the team. All three return for their sophomore seasons as the Mustangs look to reach to the postseason for the first time since 2015. Monroe will get their season started on the road at the CCBC-Essex Tournament in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday, Aug. 25, where they will take on host CCBC-Essex, followed by a game against Harford Community College on Sunday, Aug. 26.
