Brockport Football Camp File: Day Nine

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 6 College at Brockport football team continues to work hard in the preseason and one of the main questions for this unit is how the offensive line will handle the loss of four starters. Offensive Coordinator and offensive line specialist Steve Potter, does not appear to be worried. DATE – Aug. 19, 2018 DAY OF CAMP – Eight Senior captain Caleb Ferdilus will be leaned on to lead by example not just for the offensive line, but the team as whole. Ferdilus is a two-time Empire 8 All-Conference selection (2016 second team, 2017 first team). He was also named to the 2017 D3football.com Second Team All-East Region and was a member of the 2016 and 2017 offensive line that was twice named D3football.com National Offensive Line of the Week. He will transition to right tackle after starting at left guard for the past three years. "Caleb has worked very hard to become the player that he is today, both in the weight room and on the field," stated Potter. "He plays the game the way it is supposed to be played. He is going to bring a physical presence every play and he's going finish every block he makes. Caleb has been one of the top offensive lineman in the Empire 8, and has the ability to grow into an even more polished player. He is as good as anyone that I have ever had the opportunity to coach." Mike Ambrosio is set to take the reins at center for the offensive line, and despite having big shoes to fill, coach Potter believes in the senior lineman. "He has started games for us the past two years at multiple positions," mentioned Potter. "He has had a good camp so far and is working to improve." John Demy is making a move from the defensive line to the offensive line for his senior season. "Demy went through the spring with us, and he did a great job of learning our system and is competing for a starting position," noted Potter. Jacob Walker, Justice Honsinger and Josh Kuliszewski are seniors that have been working hard both on the field and in the weight room. They will add valuable depth to multiple positions as the season progresses. "The bottom line is that right now it is an open competition at four spots," said coach Potter. "It is too early to name the starters, and it has been fun watching this group compete every day," Underclassmen have been impressive in camp as well. Stony Brook transfer Luke Lodinialong with sophomore Shawn Pridell will be battling for starting spots as well. Freshman, Luke Norstad, Scott Ochsner and sophomore's Nick Romeo and Conner Latimer have also impressed the coaching staff with their hard work and dedication. When asked if he is worried about the offense as a whole being affected by four new starters, Potter put it quite simply. "We are not going to worry, we are going to work," he stated. "Since 2013 I have said that the offensive line position group will have an uncompromising determination to be the best, we will work every day towards that goal." The Golden Eagles will be in action on Sept. 1 when the Green and Gold kick off the regular season at home against Hobart College at 1 p.m. in Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
