20 NC STATE KNOCKS OFF WOMEN’S SOCCER IN 2OT


FINAL SCORE #20 NC State 1 (2-0-0) Monmouth 0 (1-1-0) RALEIGH, NC – The Monmouth University women's soccer team battled #20 NC State to a scoreless draw through 90 regulation minutes and a first overtime period, but the Wolfpack prevailed with a goal in the 103rd minute to defeat the Hawks on Monday night at Dail Soccer Stadium. The home side broke the deadlock less than three minutes into double overtime when Kristina Schuster took a pass at the top of the Monmouth penalty area, sidestepped a defender and scored into the upper right corner past Amanda Knaub. Knaub finished the night with five saves in a losing effort. The Hawks had their chances to score in the match, including two attempts that struck the crossbar, one in each half, by senior forward Alli DeLuca. NOTES & QUOTES "We had a game plan. The team followed it and we competed at a high level. It was a disappointing result as we had some terrific chances in front of goal. We will continue to improve and next time the result will be different." – Head Coach Krissy Turner - The match was the second meeting all-time between Monmouth and NC State. - Monmouth is 3-8-0 all-time against current ACC opponents. - The Hawks fell to 1-8-0 all-time against ranked opponents. - Alexis Marino made her collegiate debut off the bench. NUMBERS CRUNCH - The Hawks used their same starting lineup as the season opener. - Monmouth played its first overtime game of the season. - Amanda Knaub made her 36th consecutive start in goal and made five saves. - The Wolfpack finished with a 14-10 edge in shots, and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. NEXT UP The Hawks return home on Friday evening to host Bucknell. Opening kickoff from Hesse Field on The Great Lawn is scheduled for 7 p.m.
