Men’s Basketball Falls to Czech National Team


Nymburk, Czech Republic – The Czech National Team spoiled the homecoming for two members of the Fordham men's basketball team as seniors Prokop Slanina and David Pekarek were back to play in their home country tonight. But with Slanina sidelined with an injury the Rams couldn't overcome the hot shooting hand of the home team as the Czech National Team defeated Fordham, 113-71, on Monday night. With the loss Fordham closed out its European trip at 3-1. Some notes on the game: Freshman Jalen Cobb led the Rams with 18 points, shooting 3-for-6 from behind the arc, while fellow rookie Nick Honor netted 15 points. Honor finished in double figures in all four games, averaging 15.5 ppg. Junior Antwon Portley finished with nine points and four steals and led the team on the trip, averaging 16.5 ppg. Cobb also averaged double figures over the four games (10.3 ppg). Pekarek finished with four points, five rebounds and four steals.

Junior Chuba Ohams and freshman Onyi Eyisi made their European debuts on the game. Eyisi scored six points and added two rebounds. The Rams recorded 12 steals, notching double digits in steals totals in each of the four games. Fordham had a long day, after playing last night in Florence, they boarded the bus at 10:00 AM today for the drive to Como where they arrived at 2:30 PM. Associate head coach Rodney Crawford was in charge of the Fordham bench for the second straight game. The Czech National team shot a blistering 42.4% (14-33) from behind the arc.
