Quadir Welton '17 Signs New Contract in United Kingdom
TORONTO, August 10, 2018 - Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Quadir Welton has signed a one-year contract with the Worcester Wolves in the British Basketball League (BBL) for the 2018-19 season. Welton, a 6'8'' center, played his rookie professional season in Argentina's Torneo Nacional de Ascenso (TNA) this past year, averaging 13.3 points and ranking fifth in the league with 9.6 rebounds per game. He also averaged 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game, and was selected as an All-Argentinian TNA Honorable Mention by Latinbasket.com. A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, Welton attended Math, Civics and Science Charter School, where he was an All-American and won a State Championship. He then started his collegiate career in 2013 at Saint Peter's University in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) of the NCAA. Welton was a starter all four years at St. Peter's, but he made a big leap in his junior season, averaging 12.4 points, ranking second in the conference with 8.2 rebounds, and earning a selection to the All-MAAC Second Team. Welton followed that up with another strong season in his senior year, leading St. Peter's in scoring at 12.0 points per game, and ranking fourth in the MAAC in rebounding with 8.3 per game. That year, he was selected to the All-MAAC First Team as well as the All-Metropolitan Writer's Association Second Team, while leading Saint Peter's to a CollegeInsider.com Tournament Championship. Welton is excited to head overseas to start his European career in Worcester. "I would like to thank the Worcester Wolves organization for allowing me to join their family," said Welton. "I really look forward to getting on the court, meeting my new teammates and all the fans! Go Wolves!" Worcester finished the 2017-18 regular season in sixth place with a 19-14 record. "We have spent a great deal of time trying to find the right player to fill this position and firmly believe that Quadir will offer the versatility, speed, strength and quality at both ends of the court to make a significant contribution in the BBL," said Mick Donovan, Wocester Wolves' Managing Director. "The energy that he brings with his new teammates will be a critical factor as we move into a new era with our club."
