Field Hockey Ties for Top Spot in MAC Freedom Poll


MADISON, N.J. (August 21, 2018) - The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham field hockey team was selected to finish tied for first in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Coaches Preseason Poll Tuesday. The Devils and Misericordia each earned 45 points and three first place votes, while DeSales and Wilkes tied for third with 33 points and one first place vote each. To continue the trend, Eastern and King's each received 24 points to tie for fifth. Delaware Valley and Manhattanville rounded out the poll, finishing with 11 and nine points respectively. Last season, FDU claimed first place during the regular season, posting a 6-1 conference mark en route to a fourth straight 15-8 overall record. The Devils notched overtime victories over Arcadia and Widener in the ECAC Tournament, before falling to Alvernia in the ECAC Championship game. The Devils return four All-MAC Freedom selections in seniors Makayla Pak, Samantha Rubin and Chrissy Penney along with junior Maggie Sohns. Pak also named a Second Team All-South Atlantic Region choice by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. FDU begins its quest for a MAC Freedom Championship on August 31, kicking off the season with a road game against William Paterson.
