Men’s Soccer Travels West for a Pair of Games


POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's soccer heads to California today for a game against Saint Mary's College on Friday, August 31stfollowed by a match at No. 17 Pacific on Labor Day.

The Red Foxes will play at Saint Mary's at 7:00 p.m. eastern time on Friday, while the competition at Pacific will take place at 10:00 p.m. eastern time.

BEGINNING THE SEASON

Marist began the season at Albany, falling 4-3 to the two-time America East Champions in a competitive matchup. Samad Bounthong, Juan Parada and Christian Curti each scored goals against the Great Danes in the season opener. Bounthong also tallied an assist, along with Skylar Conway and Allen Gavilanes.

The Red Foxes led in corner kicks 6-4, and two of their three goals originated from the corner. Svyatoslav Kozak made four saves in his first game in the net for Marist. Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Allen Gavilanes led the team in shots with three.

SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S

The Gaels are off to a tremendous start, blowing out Incarnate Word 6-0 on August 24th before shutting out Detroit Mercy 2-0 just two days later. Anders Engebretsen scored two goals in both games, and currently leads the NCAA in goals after the first weekend.

Remi Prieur has not allowed a shot past him this season, making seven combined saves after two games for Saint Mary's.

SCOUTING PACIFIC

The No. 17 Pacific Tigers are 1-1-0 to begin the season, having defeated UAB in overtime on August 24th before suffering a loss to CSU Bakersfield on August 27th. Camden Riley and Mamoru Kamisasanuki lead the team with a goal each.
