Volleyball Opens Season with Sweep of Pace, 3-0

How It Happened

  • The Lions took advantage of an 8-0 run to take a 9-2 lead in the first set. Eventually, the team pulled in front by as much as 14, 23-9, before back-to-back errors from the Setters clinched the set in favor of Molloy.

  • After playing from behind most of the second set, a kill from sophomore Kacey Affrunti knotted the score at 19. The Lions capitalized on two errors and an additional kill from Affrunti paired with a kill from senior Jeanne Reinis to go in front, 23-19. Back-to-back kills from Affrunti and junior Sophia Smith put the maroon and white in front, 2-0.

  • In the third and final set, Molloy held Pace to just six kills and a .000 hitting percentage while committing just two errors of their own, hitting at .324 for the set.

Top Performances

  • Redshirt sophomore Carly Banks led the offense with 12 kills. Affrunti and juniors Hailey Wehr and Devon Hagerstrom each tallied seven. Hagerstrom led with four blocks.

  • Smith added 30 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double, also leading the team with three service aces.
