No. 6 Brockport posts statement win over Hobart, 56-7


BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 6 College at Brockport football team posted a decisive win to open the 2018 season at home, bypassing Hobart College 56-7. The Golden Eagles improve to 1-0 to start their 2018 campaign, while the Statesmen fall to 0-1 to open their season. Head coach Jason Mangone's squad was firing on all cylinders, with the Brockport offense shining while the defensive unit put on a show of their own right. The Green and Gold produced 517 total yards of offense, with 373-yards through the air, with a staggering completion percentage of 90 percent (27-for-30). The Golden Eagle defense held their opponents to just five-yards rushing, and to a mere 124 yards of total offense. Brockport came out of the gate determined, putting on a defensive clinic, holding Hobart scoreless through the first half. The Green and Gold opened the game off strong, with a Joe Germinerio connection to Alex Benson for a 77-yard touchdown just 17 seconds into the contest to take an early 7-0 lead. Germinerio would continue to shine, going a perfect 12-for-12 in completions in the first quarter, leading Brockport on two more scoring drives to post a 21-0 lead at the first break. The passing game didn't let up, as the Golden Eagles continued to pour on the scoring, opening the second quarter with a scoring drive that featured a 57-yard completion from Germinerio to DaQuan Hubbard, capped by an 11-yard completion to Tyree Brown for the touchdown and the 28-0 lead. Brockport added a pair of scores before the end of the half. The first a product of a four-play, 70-year drive where Germinerio found Hubbard for the 27-yard touchdown. The defense did their part to add to the Brockport lead, posting a pick-six to end the half, when Matt Arita returned an interception to the house to boast a 42-0 lead at the break. The domination continued in the second half, as Brockport tacked on another seven points following a 13-play, 70-yard drive where Zach Samborski found the end zone, and Dustin Moyle's extra point was true for the 49-0 lead. The Statesmen posted their lone score of the day in the third quarter, using a four-minute drive to work into the end zone and onto the scoreboard. Jala Coad started the Golden Eagles final scoring drive, picking up a 28-yard run to jump start a six-play, 52-yard drive that would end in a Joe Benedict TD to post a 56-7 lead that would stand through the remainder of regulation, securing the season opening victory. Germinerio led the offense, completing 24-of-27 passes on the day for 343-yards and three touchdowns. On the receiving end, Hubbard was a favorite target, picking up eight catches for 135-yards. Benson added 99-yards on three catches, with Brown picking up eight catches as well, for 69-yards. On the ground, Samborski led the charge, with 10 rushes for 59-yards. Justin Morrison wasn't far behind, with 13 rushing attempts for 56-yards. Defensively, the Green and Gold were led by Tim Terry, who racked up eight tackles including two for a loss of four-yards. Lawrence Jenkins and Matt Szymanskieach accounted for six tackles each, while Szymanski added a tackle for loss. In addition to his two interceptions, Matt Arita added a pair of pass breakups to his three tackles.
