Lozada Garners AE Offensive Player of the Week Honors
BOSTON – Kaila Lozada from the Hartford women's soccer team was tabbed the America East Offensive Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. A junior forward, she garnered the honor after tallying four points in a 2-0 week for the Hawks. A native of Newington, Conn., Lozada had a hand in each of the Hawks' two goals to lead the team to a 2-1 win against Holy Cross on Thursday. Scoring her first goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 50th minute, she assisted on the eventual game-winner less than seven minutes later. Lozada struck again on Sunday in a 2-0 win at Lafayette. She delivered the assist on the go-ahead tally in the 47th minute to extend the Hawks' season-best winning streak to three matches. Lozada is currently tied for second on the team with six points, while her four assists are the most in the America East. Through the first three weeks of the season, the Hawks have collected three weekly award from the league. After an opening-day win at Delaware State, sophomore Gabriela Gamory and freshman Taylor Brown were named the Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Aug. 20. In addition, the honor marks the second time Lozada has earned weekly recognition from the conference, as she was previously named the America East Rookie of the Week on Aug. 22, 2016. Lozada and the Hawks look to continue their winning ways on Thursday when they host NEC opponent LIU Brooklyn at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 860-768-HAWK or by clicking here.
