Morello Announced as Season's First NE10 Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference announced New Haven senior Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) as the league's Women's Soccer Player of the Week after a breakout stretch to begin 2018. The weekly recognition marks the first player of the week honor for Morello's career. The senior was instrumental in the Chargers 2-0 start with wins against Georgian Court University and Post University. Morello began the week by scoring a career-high two goals, including the game-winner during the 89th minute against Georgian Court to lift the Chargers to a victory in the season opener. The trend continued against Post when Morello netted her second game-winner of the season, scoring twice during the first half to give her four goals for the week. Morello's 2.00 goals per game average is tied for the lead among all NCAA Division II players with at least two games played this season. For the week, Morello took eight total shots (.500 shot percentage), including six on goal, for a shot on goal percentage of .750. Morello will look to help keep the Chargers unbeaten this season when they travel to Franklin Pierce University for the team's NE10 opener on Saturday, Sept. 8.
