Quick Start Leads Men's Soccer Past Franklin Pierce, 2-1
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Two quick goals by seniors Vittorio Argeri and Lukas Ostermann propelled the LIU Post men's soccer team past Franklin Pierce University, 2-1 Wednesday at Knights Field on the campus of the University of Bridgeport. The duo combined to strike twice during the first three minutes, beginning with Argeri's second tally of the season from a thru ball from Ostermann just 71 seconds into the match. Ostermann needed just over a minute to extend the lead when he converted a penalty kick during the third minute to put LIU Post ahead 2-0. The early momentum carried throughout the match as the Green and Gold outshot the Ravens 14-11, including an 8-4 margin in shots on goal. The Pioneers also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Franklin Pierce got on the board during the 90th minute of action when Joel Peterson took a pass from Yanniuk Felber to score his first goal of the season. Time ran out on the Ravens, however, as the Pioneers held on for the 2-1 final. Senior goalkeeper Oliver Hessner Hansen earned his second win of the season between the pipes, making three second-half saves in the process. The Pioneers return to action for their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 9 when they host East Stroudsburg University at the Pioneer Soccer Park at 1:00 p.m.
