Women’s Soccer Opens Five-Match Homestand on Thursday
Bronx, N.Y. – (September 5, 2018) – Following the team's win on Sunday at Lehigh, the Fordham women's soccer team will look to keep the momentum rolling from that win at home this week, as the Rams begin a five-match homestand at Jack Coffey Field, which starts with Yale on Thursday. Fordham then hosts the annual "Battle of the Bronx" on Sunday against Manhattan. In contrast on Sunday, this will be the 26th all-time meeting for the Battle of the Bronx between Fordham and Manhattan. The Rams hold the series lead at 16-8-1, having won the four meetings, which included a 1-0 win on a Crea Baker-Durante goal at Gaelic Park last year. QUICK LOOK: Yale is 1-2-1 on the season after posting a 2-0 loss to Central Connecticut State on August 30th and a draw with Colgate on September 3rd. Noelle Higginson is the team's top scorer with a goal and three assists, while Alyssa Fagel has seen most of the action in goal, registering 22 saves in four games. Manhattan enters the week at 1-2-0 as the team's match at North Florida was cancelled after 50 minutes, due to inclement weather and heavy lightning. The Jaspers face Binghamton on Thursday at Gaelic Park. LAST TIME OUT: It was a complete 90-minute effort for the Fordham women's soccer team on Sunday with solid defensive work throughout and a moment of brilliance from sophomore Maura Holst in the first half, giving the Rams a 1-0 road win at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
