Pace Volleyball Sweeps Mercy

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Highlighted by four players notching at least nine kills, the Pace University volleyball team soared to a 3-0 triumph (25-18, 25-15, 25-22) over Mercy College on Friday night in Manchester, N.H. The Setters' fourth sweep of the season moves their record to 5-1 on the year. It was another balanced approach from the Blue and Gold, who have showed terrific versatility so far this fall. Junior Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) led the way with her third double-double of the season, registering a team-high 11 kills and 16 digs. Senior Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) also racked up 11 putaways, to go along with nine digs. Fontanet's stellar effort helped her eclipse 1,000 kills in her career, putting her 10th in the program's record book. Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) served as the final Setter to post double-digit kills with 10. Remarkably, she did so in just 14 total attempts for a .714 hitting percentage. Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) and Katy Motz (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park) also impressed on Friday night, combining for 40 assists in the win. Nidini chipped in nine kills as well, while Motz tallied seven digs. Up Next The Setters will be in action two more times on Saturday as they take on Saint Anselm College at 10 a.m. and Edinboro University at 2:30 p.m.
