Pioneers win shot battle in second half but fall to Columbia 3-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team (0-6-0 overall, 0-0 NEC) fell to Columbia (3-1-1 overall, 0-0 Ivy League) by a score of 3-0 this afternoon. The team returns to action on Sunday Sept. 9 when they host Vermont. Game-time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Columbia would fire off three shots to begin the game as Nicole Sambuco would save one of those shots while the other two were blocked or went high eight minutes into the game. SHU would get their first shot of the game off at 17:24 when Melanie DaSilva fired a shot at the goal but was saved by Sophie Whitehouse keeping the game 0-0. Then at 32:45 the Lions would get their first goal of the game courtesy of Jordyn Geller off an assist by Mallaika Tomar to put Columbia ahead 1-0.
