Week 2 Football Preview


MADISON, N.J. (September 7, 2018) - The FDU-Florham football team opens its road schedule with a Saturday afternoon affair against William Paterson. GAME INFO Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wrightman Stadium in Wayne, N.J. LAST WEEK RECAP The Devils notched a victory in their season-opener, taking down The College of New Jersey 35-21. SERIES HISTORY The two sides haven't met since 2012, when William Paterson came out with a 26-6 victory. The Pioneers hold a 5-2 edge in the series history, with FDU's last win coming 2007. FAMILIAR FOE The Pioneers are coached by Dustin Johnson, who is in first season at the helm. Prior to William Paterson, Johnson served as a coach with Middle Atlantic Conference rival Stevenson. He worked his way up to Defensive Coordinator in 2013, helping the Mustangs to a MAC Championship in 2016. PIONEER REPORT WPU is coming off an 0-10 season, and have not earned a victory since October 1, 2016. Mike Yarosz will quarterback the Pioneers after appearing in nine games last season. PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior Mike Panzarino was tabbed the MAC Offensive Player of the Week after hauling in 16 passes for 224 yards and four touchdowns. The senior moved into second place on the FDU career receptions list with 174 and entered into the top-5 in receiving touchdowns after last week. DE-FENSE The defensive unit had a stellar game, notching three turnovers and four sacks. Senior Ryan Wilson tallied two interceptions, while classmate Robert Planter recorded 1.5 sacks, nine tackles and forced fumble. TURNER TIME Senior linebacker Isaiah Turner was all over the field, leading the team with 12 tackles. Additionally, Turner forced a fumble and also recorded 0.5 sacks in the contest. WELCOME TO THE FIELD Several newcomers saw extended action on both sides of the ball. Defensively, freshman Deandre Carterand junior Javanughn Wright each recorded three tackles while freshman Victor Mahar registered 0.5 sacks. Offensively, senior Dermot Egan notched three catches as freshman Frank DiMattina hauled in two catches and had a kick return. D3 FOOTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK Panzarino and Wilson each were selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
