Pioneers Breeze by Saint Peter's 6-0 While Head Coach Matt Micros Earns First Win At SHU
JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Soccer team (1-7-0 overall, 0-0 NEC) defeated Saint Peter's (0-6-0 overall, 0-0 MAAC) this afternoon by a final score of 6-0. Lindsay Corallowas the lead scorer for the Pioneers as she tallied two goals. With the win head coach Matt Micros earned his first NCAA Division 1 win as well as his first win as the SHU head coach.
The Pioneers would dominate the first half as SHU started launching shots early in the game. Within the first seven minutes of the game SHU would take five shots all by different members of the team. Then at 7:44 Lindsay Corallo would fly a shot into the back of the net off a rebound to put SHU ahead 1-0. After the Corallo goal, SHU would launch give more shots that were either saved or just wide to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the 25:00 minute mark. Then at 25:49, Corallo again would find the back of the net to put SHU ahead 2-0 off an assist by Lindsay Savko and Melanie DaSilva. Three minutes later at 27:49 senior Alex Mesropyan would fire a shot from 25 yards out that would fly by the goalie giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. Then SHU would close the half with a goal scored by Alyssa Chirichella at 40:44 to close the half with the Pioneers ahead 4-0. SHU outshot the Peacocks 16-2 in the first half with 14 of those shots on goal.
Both sides would exchange shots in the beginning of the second half as Melanie DaSilva would launch a shot high while the Peacock's Kinlee Bruns would also shoot a shot wide at 53:59 and 55:16 respectively. Then at 57:43, DaSilva would straighten up her shot and nail a shot past the goalie to add to the Pioneer lead 5-0 off an assist by Emily Rosso. The Pioneers would tally one more goal to the final score as at 63:35 Courtney Charbonneau would earn her first goal of the season to make the final score 6-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
