Football Notches 49-14 Win Over Alvernia


READING, Pa. (September 15, 2018) - The FDU-Florham football team picked up a 49-14 triumph has over Alvernia University Saturday afternoon. The Devils moved to 3-0 for the first time since 1995, and next week look to go 4-0 for the first time since the 1988 season. The Golden Wolves fell to 1-1, 0-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Neither side scored on their first possession, while the Devils defense notched a three-and-out on the Alvernia second drive. Senior Jagger Green needed eight plays to put the Devils on the board, hitting junior Damarquis Price for a 13 yard touchdown. It is was the second touchdown in as many weeks for Price. FDU used a little trickery on the ensuing kickoff, as freshman Kyle Baszak recovered an outside kick. One play later, Green connected with freshman Connor Perez for a 53 yard strike, the first TD of Perez's career. The hosts cut the lead in the half on the next possession, as a nine-play, 75 yard drive resulted in an 18 yard touchdown run. Josh Rainey set the Devils up in great field position after a 46 yard kick return, with Green needing five plays to extend the lead back to 14. This time, the senior hooked up with tight end Dermot Egan for a 26 yard score, the first of Egan's career after making the switch to football this year. The teams traded possessions again, and the Devils pushed the lead to 21. This time, senior Mike Panzarino ran in from four yards on a gadget play. Alvernia cut into the lead with 45 ticks left in the second frame, converting a 10 yard pass play. Alvernia seemingly held the Devils to a field goal midway through the third, however a roughing the kicker penalty prolonged the drive. On the next play, Green hit Panzarino for a six yard score. The same duo came together on a nine yard score to open the fourth quarter, as the Devils extended the lead to 42-14. After just a 21 yard Alvernia punt marked the ball inside Golden Wolves terriory, junior Tommy Galante found sophomore Matthew Pettinchio for 12 yards. Sophomore Alnazir Blackman took the next handoff 30 yards to close out the scoring for the Devils. Green was 29-of-48 for 291 yards and five touchdowns, while Galante was 2-of-3. The duo established a school-record by having 11 different players catch a pass. The Devils defense caused four turnovers, with senior Ryan Wilson recording his second two interception game of the season. Javanughn Wright also notched an interception with Christian Krumenacker also recovering a fumble. Senior linebacker Isaiah Turner had two sacks, eight tackles and a forced fumble, while the team tallied seven sacks. FDU will return home and face Lycoming Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m.
