Field Hockey Flies Past Owls, 5-0


"We had a great team win today," said head coach Raenee Savin. "Every one of our players got to see action and we continue to see things we like from each one of them. It was a slow start for this young group but I'm confident we will continue to learn and improve each time we step on the pitch." Goal scorers for the Pioneers were Miller, who had three, along with seniors Tarryn Morris and sophomore Sammy Bell. Bell led the team in assists with two while Miller had one. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Vellisnotched a shutout and made seven saves It did not take long for LIU Post to find the back of the net as Morris tapped in the Pioneer's first goal at 5:36. Bell added to LIU Post's lead at 30:03 as she shot from the left side to the right corner after receiving an assist from Miller. Back-to-back goals from Miller came next; she tipped in a shot from a Bell assist at 31:21 and scored off another Bell assist at 32:43. Miller completed the hat trick and scored her sixth goal of the season at 55:07 on a penalty stroke. Up Next The Pioneers return to Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 23 for a NE10 matchup with Saint Anslem College (2-2) at 11:00 a.m.
