Late Goal Lifts Rowan Men's Soccer Over Haverford, 3-2


GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team edged Haverford College, 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Profs move to 6-2 on the season and the Fords are now 3-3. Rowan took a 2-0 advantage over Haverford in the first half. Midfielder Modou Sowe (jr. Harrison, NJ/Harrison) broke the stalemate in the 29th minute, when he scored on a spectacular bicycle kick that snuck into the lower left corner. Forward Ryan Campbell (sr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) doubled the lead one minute later, after he stole the ball from a Fords' defender and slotted his shot past the goalie. The Profs slipped in the second half as Haverford notched two goals to tie the game at two. Midfielder Noah Schwab (fr. Millburn, NJ/Millburn) scored on a header off a free kick from forward Nick Jannelli (jr. Springfield, PA/Springfield), that hit the far post and went in. The Fords' next goal came eight minutes later when back Sykes Cargile (so. Nashville, TN/University School of Nashville) ripped a one-time shot from just inside the 18-yard box into the lower left corner. Both sides battled it out for the remainder of the contest, but it was the Profs who tallied a late goal in the 78th minute to take a 3-2 lead. Back Jackson Nwokeoma (fr. Houston, TX/Madonna Secondary School) collected a ball off a save, that he booted into the back of the net. Rowan locked down for the final 12 minutes to hold onto the win. Sowe led the Profs with one goal and an assist, while Campbell scored one and midfielder Kevin Primich (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Allentown) dished out an assist. Goalie Kyle Dennis (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) played the full 90-minutes and racked up two saves. Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, Sept. 22, with the game set to start at 1 p.m.
