Brooklyn, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Karla Ruiz notched a hat-trick to lead the Lehman College women's soccer team to an 8-0 blanking of hosts Medgar Evers, in first CUNYAC match-up for both sides this season, at Kingsborough Field on Wednesday. The Lightning improve to 3-1-1 record, 1-0 CUNYAC, while Cougars fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Freshman midfielder Marissa Soriano opened Lehman's scoring spree in the second minute-mark. Then, Ruiz had three consecutive tallies in a span of eight minutes (11th, 17th, 18th) to increase the Lightning's advantage to 4-0 just before halftime. Lehman's offense, which had 27 total shots, continued in the second stanza with freshman defender Micaela Canapa getting on the scoreboard in the 49th minute. Senior midfielder Daisy Gomez had a tally three minutes later, while sophomore midfielder Melanie Siranaula made it 7-0 in the 53rd minute-mark. Freshman midfielder Monica Vicente scored the Lightning's eighth tally, via penalty kick, with six minutes remaining.
