Women’s Volleyball Improves Winning Streak to Six Matches with Sweep of NJC


JERSEY CITY, N.J. (9/20/18)- Zoe Strozewski totaled nine kills and hit .333 as the Kean University women's volleyball team improved their winning streak to six matches with a straight-sets sweep of New Jersey City University on Thursday evening.

Brett Harper and Andrea Antal both tallied seven kills for the Cougars who improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Stephanie Duque totaled seven kills for the Gothic Knights who fall to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.

After dominating the opening two sets, including a .550 hitting percentage in set two, Kean fell into a 10-3 deficit early in the final set. The Cougars closed the match with a 22-8 run behind Sarah Sample serving for four straight points, Brianna Calvano serving for six straight points and Jess Iacona serving for four straight points.

Calvano handed out 30 assists, nine digs, and three aces, while both Sample and Iacona collected four aces apiece. Vikki Stec totaled six kills, five digs, and two solo blocks, while Jesse Larkin added five kills.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action this Friday and Saturday in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh.
